In Response To: Re: About the CBS/Crl-Atl-Delete article (HALOChat)

Excellent post with good points. Especially the part about GTA. Just about everyone who ever says video games are violent uses very specific examples from GTA, but then puts Halo (and other games where you play the hero) in the same category. This is obviously the tactic of those without sufficient evidence against games which they are trying to ban.

"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe."
-1 Timothy 4:12 (NASB)

: *To start this off - I haven't really been following this - partly because I
: didn't really feel like following it, nor did I have the time to - so
: don't judge me based on my "correctness" on the articles here -
: because I haven't read them. I'm just stating my thoughts on Video Game
: Violence and Parents and their Kids. Now that this is out of the way - get
: ready for a long post.*

: I completely agree here - the problem is the PARENTS - not the children.

: If the PARENTS would actually keep an eye on their kids and monitor what they
: do - they won't be introduced to as much video game violence, etc. At the
: very least - the worst parts can be kept away from them. (Them in this
: statement referring to kids)

: In addition - did you ever notice that most of the parents who are
: complaining about video game violence don't bother to keep their kids in
: check? If a kid can't play a game at his/her house - they'll go to their
: friends house... if the will is there - there can sometimes be no stopping
: them (unless the parent actually FOCUSES of course). From at least the age
: of about 8 or 9 - kids begin to develop the thought process of "Can't
: do it here - but if I go there, I can do it". It's the parent's
: responsibility to know WHAT their kid is doing, and if they're being
: introduced to the things that they don't want their children to be
: introduced to.

: Basically my point here is that the fault lies on the PARENTING. Not the
: children, nor the game developer. A parent has the power to keep their
: kids from things they shouldn't be introduced to - not the developer. If
: the parent PAYS ATTENTION to what their kids are doing - and stops them
: when they're doing something that the parent deems inappropriate (in this
: case playing a 'violent' video game) - they can keep their kids sheltered
: from this content.

: One final (somewhat unrelated) thought - I hate it when people compare Grand
: Theft Auto to Halo - they are two completely different genres. Halo is
: about killing aliens to save humanity. Grand Theft Auto is about *gory
: thoughts ahead - don't read this sentence if you don't want to* mowing
: down Police Officers with chainsaws and stealing cars. *end gore*

: In conclusion - you may think that I'm a parent who has dealt with this first
: hand - and has had success with this... you are incorrect. I am a fourteen
: and a half year old who has been raised in a good environment - and has
: been sheltered. Did I turn out too bad? Not in my opinion. And please
: don't use my age to judge my abilities - because as I believe I've shown
: in the past - my abilities FAR surpass my age... and the thing I hate the
: most is when people judge me by my age (hence the fact that I had not
: released my age here until now) Now to get back on topic (please don't use
: this paragraph to take this post off-topic).

: *I don't know if I'm mirroring what others have said - I really don't have
: the time at the moment to read the other posts - I just wanted to throw in
: my two cents worth - and I'm not really in the mood to get in a
: "war" over this.*
