Please don't take this the wrong way, but that's disturbingly like: (click for full-sized, 58k) ![]() (You knock around conventions long enough, you get a few nifty things like that.) My take on the whole thing is that parents are (or should be, anyway) the best judges for what is and is not appropriate for their children. The game industry is labelling their products with age-based recommendations but it's ultimately UP TO THE PARENTS to decide. Setting up a testing scheme and licensing format to support otherwise would be perceived as censorship (see above) and would be ruinously expensive. Not to mention intrusive, raising real privacy issues. ("Hmm," said the potential employer. "How come you don't have your 'mature game' license? I'm not sure we'd like to hire you if you can't be trusted to play a video game.") -- Steve doesn't think that there's a perfect solution; that's why he advocates letting parents decide for themselves and giving them all the information they need to make an informed decision. Kinda like what the ESRB already does. |
