I wouldn't have said that at all. I may have thought it, but I *would* have said something along the lines of "You need stricter gun laws". I did say that I wasn't going to get into gun arguments, purely because they've been had so much in other places.

The fact is that most of my contact with Americans is through the media, or through watching them terroise my home country. And these things I dislike, immensely. It's always been said that you are an ambassador for your country when you are abroad, and 95% of the Americans I have come in contact with have been very, very bad ambassadors.

5% that I have actually talked to, are actually quite nice.

But my point remains, I have had limited exposure to the US, and the Americans, hence I must draw my opinions of them from what I know about them. Namely, they're always in the news for something bad, they clog up Scotland, and they annoy me.

In fact, I hardly ever use such phrases on the web, it's generally when I talk to my friends at home, who have similar views, similar senses of humour and similar understanding of what I mean.

Basically, chill. You're taking this all way too literally. I have noticed a LOT of differences between Europeans and Americans (senses of humour, interpretation of text, etc) and this is prolly one of them. I've been using such terminology all my life, I'm not going to stop because you take it to heart.
