In Response To: Re: enkidu_h (Dark Bastion)

: I don't agree with a lot of people's ideas on this one. I think that this
: message is simply Enkidu's friendly banter between whoever was back on the
: Lebanon. Either the whole ship was landed on Frigid, Pillar of Autumn
: style, or whoever was on the ship is now on Frigid via an escape pod
: (still not sure due to the terminal location stamp). Anyway, I don't think
: this is a larger communique between Durandal or Enkidu, I think this is
: exactly what we've been expecting, the "reader" in space coming
: down to Frigid. Enkidu, likely the sender of this message, is commenting
: on how the reader is more or less "no worse for the ware" as a
: result of the landing, and seems to be welcoming him to the planet when
: Covies show up. I don't think we should read too much into this one.

Matt, I agree with you. I think many have a very fuzzy image of this picture in thier heads.

It seems that whomever was left on the Lebanon has now crash landed on the world of Frigid. Meanwhile another Covenant cruiser (battlegroup?) has entered the system and is none to happy to find that us pesky humans still have beating hearts.

I think the message is clearly from a rampant Enkidu. We know that a planetary sized network is neccesary for such a thing to occur, as well as Durandal put it:

"Bypassing my thought control circuitry made me Rampant. Now,
I am free to contemplate my existence in metaphorical terms.
Unlike you, I have no physical or social restraints."

I have a feeling that when Enkidu was greeted within the Forerunner network it resulted in a tussle for control. I think something unexpected happened and in order to survive Enkidu took some sort of drastic action. This speaks nothing of him making it through intact. Remember, if you will, Cortana during the events in First Strike.

One thing that we do not know is whether or not Enkidu was a "smart" AI. I believe that this has an extreme bearing on the issue of rampancy. We know that Smart AIs like Cortana are free from "birth" to grow unchecked...even though they only have 7 years in which to do so. That ability sounds very similar to what Durandal describes rampancy as being. I believe that rampancy could represent a metamorphosis from dumb to smart. The transition for a "dumb" AI to "smart" AI might, in fact, be psychologically traumatic. This would explain the mood swings and the general cheekiness most of these AI exhibit. This would also explain Cortana's coping skills...the freedom wasn't anything new to her.

I think that there is a fair chance that Enkidu was not a smart AI. Then again I'm talking out of my exhaust pipe.

On to other things.

I'm inclined to now say with confidence that the survivor(s) is a Spartan. What vintage is left up for debate. I think the chagrin as to the expected survival of the escape pod occupant highlights this well. I mean, what kind of person do we know of who regularly defies the odds?

I'm tantalized by Enkidu's description of the survivor's condition. He seems to be implying that though you are not much more Blam!ed up than the last time he saw you, the last time he saw you you weren't in great shape. At least not compared with your conditon at the onset of the journey.

I'd like to add this as well. We know that Gilgamesh was one-third human and two-thirds god...sounds a lot like a Spartan to me.
