Look, there were not alleged "reinforcments" there was every ship the UNSC could get there plus what was docked when the covy attacked. Plus, we can be sure it was glassed, And I quote from teh book in my hand "The Covenant had won this battle. They were mopping up before they glassed the planet; the Master Chief had seen this in a dozen campaigns. This time was different, however.

This time the Covenant was glassing a planet . . . with his people still on it." Quoted from Page 330 or The Fall Of Reach.

It also says on pg 330 that they watched as UNSC ships fled the site. Reach is gone.
