It could have a molten "lower" stratum, I guess; radioactive heavy metals are pulled to the outside of the ring by centrifugal (don't correct me) force and sit just inside whatever the Halo's outer surface is made of, giving off heat as they decay. Also, maybe the Halo's outer surface is dark in many frequencies and absorbs as much or more sunlight than the inner, "upper" surface. Those together might produce a molten layer, although probably conduction would then make the inner surface unlivably hot. Of course, this all depends on that actually being a volcano... --SiliconDream
