In Response To: All we are saying, is give peace a chance. (Forensic) I hope noone was upset by my earlier post. That message was pure hyperbole and was intended as a joke, hence the ;-). Here are my opinions on the 2 perspectives - all of these observations are based on the 1st/3rd games I have played:
3p: Zelda, Shadows of the Empire, TR, Contra on NES :-) (it IS 3rd person you have to admit it)
1st person: Easier to control, aim, see the exact direction you want to etc. In find the grapple hook in multiplayer quake a good example of needing to be able to see exactly were you are aiming. Problems: Real eyes have peripheral vision that just cant really be acounted for on a 2d monitor without seeming whacked out and distorted. 3rd person: Looks, "Feels" better - in real life you can feel your entire body, at any time you very close to exactly the position of your limbs and such. Since you cant "feel" anything in the digital body that information must be provided to you visually or you feel like a "floating head". Lets you see the things around you that would mostly be acounted for by peripheral vision. Problems: lots of bad camera angles, not being able to look the right direction, very hard to aim in a good way. peace out,
