In Response To: Volunteers -- arrival (Grasshopper)

: I never cease to be amazed by how beautifully constructed this level is.

: The assymetry, the expansive overlook over the hangar area, where our
: shuttle suposedly crashed (?), versus the claustrophobic mazelike area
: in the northwest. Then the compilers -- hacking away at Leela, and
: generally only attacking when provoked -- luckily, we only have to deal
: with one a time, and, luckily, fists are fast enough to prevent them from
: releasing their energy bolts.

Yeah, this makes Arival one of my favorite M1 levels. That spooky atmosphere really made you feel there, especially when you meet the compilers for the first time—and falling out of your chair doing so.

: One nice thing about Arrival is that, provided you're conservative with your

: pistol, you can really stock up on Magnum ammo provided you do
: enough exploring.

Yeah, and if you really are up for some exploring, you can find a bunch of AR ammo and even some SPNKR/TOZT ammo.

: Hey, speaking of pistol, I was curious about one thing. The magnum,

: which reminds me a lot of Deckard's gun in Blade Runner, seems,
: from its construction, to be a revolver. And yet it loads like an
: automatic.

Heh, even Marathon's weapons have roots in Blade Runner...

Arrival observations:

•There is a projectile fighter in the first part of the map (before you enter the maze), that doesn't appear until you retunr from the maze. Does anybody know where he comes from?

•There's a large (relatively large) room in the center of the maze (reachlable from the platform) that has some ammo and a compiler in it. Oddly, there isn't a terminal for the compiler to hack into anywhere nearby. What was he doing there? OMG I KIK HIZ ARSE UN I GETZ AMOZ 2!

•From the room south of the hangar (reached by the maze), the airlock door (which you enter the ship from) is nowhere to be seen. In fact, you can't even see the northern part of the ship at all. Er, I guess you'd need to see it for yourselves to know what I'm talking about, a screenshot mb?

•In the compiler termianls (what are a bunch of computer termainals doing inside of a maze anyway?), there are some bolded binary and haxadecimal numbers. They are:

011101 = 29
AF = 175
66C = 1644
4A80 = 19072

•There is a feature in Arrival that was later used in Ne Cede Mailis (maybe not exact, but you can clearly see the similarities—down to the secret room on the eastern side of both of them). Now, who knows what room I'm talking about?
