The atmospheric pressure inside won't let the door open. : Ah, but there is no other exit from the docking bay, unless the Player jumped : out into space and found an external airlock somewhere on the hull of : the Marathon . The door behind the Player's starting location serves as : evidence to this. This theory is further supported by the fact that : Durandal intentionally decompressed the docking bay, which seems entirely : unnecessary, unless he wanted the Player to enter via this airlock and : thus find Leela's terminal. The Player might miss this terminal if he came : in through the docking bay door. There's another explanation: the pod sprites doesn't look real when looked at a close distance. It looks flat, specially when you walk around it. We don't notice this with other scenery items because they're below or line of sight, or over it - in the case of the satellite dish. That's why you can't go back to the docking bay: the pod is supposed to be seen from a distance only. Why the player starting location is not behind that other door? Marathon is a game of questions left without answer on purpose. This is the trick to get cult following. Bungie wanted it and they got it. REB
