	In Response To: *Halo Spoiler* The trap. (Rick Blaine) : Think about what dies as a result of activating the Halo. It's not all life : in the galaxy. It's all intelligent life. The story beats us over the head : with the idea that neither the Flood or the pulse have any effect on : anything other than intelligent life. No housecats need apply. Not today, Personally, I always thought it was more of a mass requirement than an intelligence requirement. 343 says at the beginning of Two Betrayals, "...this galaxy will be quite devoid of life, or at least any life with sufficient biomass to sustain the flood." I'm imagining that this means that some form of bacterium, microbs, etc. may survive, but big things (humans, covenant, monkeys, dogs...whatever's larger than a couple of cells) would be wiped out by the pulse generator. I'm not sure what to make of the sentience argument; whether a life form would have to be self-aware to be affected by Halo's weapons or not seems a difficult question. To me, it appears to be awfully specific to make a weapon of mass destruction...if your goal is to stop the flood from overrunning the galaxy, and you decide that the best way to do it is to keep them from being able to eat, it's not likely that you'll spend the time to determine sentience of the things you're going to be killing. I think you're more likely to just destroy everything on the off chance that the flood could feed on it...shoot first, no questions to ask later.
