: Having been intrigued by the possibility that the wasp is a Pfhor at another

What about the "dormant" wasps hovering high up in the incubation chamber? (Even if you shoot them, they don't spit back at you... or even move out of the way.) Maybe only a certain number of breeder males are needed to mate with the queen, and it's the "surplus" that are converted into weapons...?

: If the wasps were necessary for Pfhor reproduction, then why weren't they

Good point. The best I can come up with is that we just never came across the wasps or breeding areas in other Pfhor facilities -- maybe that one scoutship had a huge surplus of males for some reason.

I hate to go into elaborate conjecture defending a "plot point" that was never intended by the creators, but it is indeed an intriguing thought (and it's the only explanation I've ever heard to account for those pacifistic wasps observing the egg.)

P.S. In a complete non sequitur, Jason Jones apparently thought the incubation chamber was the ship's main reactor.
