: That's super cool! I thought portals were only supported by GZ Doom &
: other sourceports but no, the linguortal trick is pretty neat. I wonder if
: it was used in My House.WAD?

myhouse.wad iirc is a UDMF format map that 100% relies on GZDoom specific line specials. GZDoom supports portals natively, so it would have no use for tricks like linguica's trick. To that effect, I'm unaware of any real, non tech demo maps that make use of linguica's portal. As a trick, it doesn't really make sense in the social context of doom mapping -- you make complevel 2 (native doom format for doom2 v1.9) compatible maps so that your map is playable on the largest range of doom ports. Linguica's trick relies on a VERY vanilla engine that can replicate undocumented features, so many popular higher end ports like GZDoom would be unable to play it, while at the same time, those same ports can do portal rendering natively through things like the line portal special.

In any case, I've looked briefly at myhouse.wad before -- it's main trick isn't portals from what I recall, but silent line teleports and having multiple copies of the environment. Basically, map01 in myhouse contains multiple copies of the house and all of the other areas, and when you step over certain lines, it teleports you to various other areas. For instance, the room-over-room effect in the main house that lets you go into the basement is accomplished by having one of the lines on the stairs leading down to the basement silent teleport you into another section of the map where the basement actually exists.

This is why the author disabled the automap and warps you into the "backrooms" area if you try to idclip out of the level. If you could see the real map or noclip in an unexpected manner, it'd break the illusion real quick and make the map very easy to deconstruct.
