MML can set the max pickups for each weapon. So if you really want the old way, you can make a plugin that sets them all higher than the number of enforcers on any level. Just don't upload films or join net games and expect them to play nice with others :)

Should it behave differently for third party maps versus the original scenario? Definitely not.

Should we reintroduce the bug for everything because of those third party maps? I'm not in favor of that for now, but welcome examples of third party maps where it makes a significant difference.
