Story in Marathon Eternal

Ok i just beat Eternal and i dont really understand the ending. The whole story was quite confusing. Why does the last lvl look weird? I mean when you move around in the lvl its kinda like everything looks awkward. It looks like in the time loops lvls in which your vision looks distorted. Why is that?
Can someone give the story here in a short easy read. I got some parts of it but other parts were confusing. Was it Durendal at the last Terminal you read in the finial lvl? It sounded like him in which the terminal was talking about Escaping would make me god. If it is him how did you get there? Also the last lvl is actually the first lvl so why don't i see any BOB's like i did in the first lvl of Eternal?
