In Response To: Story in Marathon Eternal (Doomguy)

: Ok i just beat Eternal and i dont really understand the ending.

Everybody dies, except the ones who mysteriously disappear. That's usually how my stories end.

(This is a joke. Mostly.)

: The whole
: story was quite confusing. Why does the last lvl look weird? I mean when
: you move around in the lvl its kinda like everything looks awkward. It
: looks like in the time loops lvls in which your vision looks distorted.
: Why is that?

Distorted vision is indicative of a level being a dream.

: I got some parts of it
: but other parts were confusing. Was it Durendal at the last Terminal you
: read in the finial lvl?

Yes.

: It sounded like him in which the terminal was
: talking about Escaping would make me god. If it is him how did you get
: there? Also the last lvl is actually the first lvl so why don't i see any
: BOB's like i did in the first lvl of Eternal?

It's a dream. Though, not a normal dream like you or I would have; a dream where the monsters are as real as you conceive them to be; the kind of dream that haunts the fleeting sleep of gods and demons.

: Can someone give the story here in a short easy read.

I probably couldn't (make it short and easy), but I'd be interested to see other people try. See what the popular Cliff Notes understanding of the story is. I've probably talked about it enough here that everybody already pretty much gets it.

(On an interesting side note, I just discovered that this is the top result on Google for the phrase "forever my greatest and only love", beating out even the MSP KYT Term page. I think that's such an awesome trailer, I'm gonna make it the splash screen for eternal.bungie.org. That bottom image which is now broken was the banner that's now at the top of the Eternal site),
