In Response To: Re: Eternal X Alpha 4 (LegacyTyphoon) : I don't mean this as an insult. But, if people overly use the Trooper Rifle
Well, maybe it's just my own playing style; I found that when I (as a developer) let myself (as a player) have all the ammo I wanted, I wound up using the Havok rifle a ton. Other weapons are certainly more powerful or in various ways better, but they've all got their drawbacks too; the Havok rifle is the best balanced. The Fusion Pistols are fairly well balanced themselves, and good against Pfhor machinery like drones and juggies, but I'm hesitant to use them around Hunters because it makes them explode in my face (the Hunters, that is). The Fusion Cannon is insanely powerful but burns through ammo like nobody's business (and since it shares ammo with the Fusion Pistols, running out of ammo hurts you doubly), and it shares the Hunters-exploding-in-your-face problem. The Wave Motion Cannon has basically the same strengths and weaknesses as the old Rocket Launcher, except deadlier for you and the enemy. Use only when you've got a nice clear shot on a very powerful enemy of a big group of them. The Gravitronic Blades are the most powerful weapon in the game and can kill anything in about one hit, and have nearly infinite ammo. However, they are melee-only, so you can still die from ranged fire before you get a chance to use them, and they are Fusion-based, so Hunters explode in your face (as do Nightmares any anything else that just explodes on principle). The S-Rifle is also a damn nice weapon, except for it's weakness at a distance; the only reason I don't use it much more is because it's fairly rare, since you can only carry one at a time (and when ammo was unlimited, I used this much like I would the Havok Rifle). The N-Cannon I always found kind of craptacular, and only kept it around for legacy's sake, really. Ooh, it shoots slow, weak burny things... I'm really impressed. I only use this when I'm out of everything else. It also has the doubly craptacular downside of burning your enemies, and since they are your source of new weapons and ammo, that sucks. Use against fighters to your heart's content, you really only need one Shock Staff. The Shock Staff has it's advantages; nearly infinite ammo, a fairly powerful melee attack, and a very accurate ranged attack. However, its melee attack isn't powerful enough to make up for being melee and slower than a punch, and it's ranged attack is likewise rather slow and weak. It can be nice to snipe weak enemies with, but beyond that I don't use it much. The Havok Rifle fires lots of shots with a fairly wide spread, making it great for diving into the fray; and it's got a powerful explody grenade attack that's also fairly accurate, making it pretty good at a distance too. Being so well rounded, and vacuum-enabled unlike the old MA-75, makes this the most useful weapon in the game, to me. Hence why I'm hesitant to give players much more ammo or the Havok Rifle. It's not that it's uberpowerful or anything... it's just so nice and well rounded I rarely find it worth switching to another weapon. There's nothing a spray of bullets and some well-placed grenades can't fix.
