I'm saying the two aren't necessarily exclusive.
Hollywood puts out a lot of crap because it's easy and, most importantly, it sells.
If someone pitches them something else that looks like it will sell and just coincidentally isn't crap, they don't usually have a problem with it. Witness LotR. Which is why I have some hope that Halo may not blow, with Peter Jackson involved. Some hope. Not a whole lot though.
