Precisely. Crap is what sells. That's why they make crap. That's why I think a Marathon movie would most likely be crap. : If someone pitches them something else that looks like it will sell and just
The problem is that the guys running the place feel that certain things have to be in place in order for a movie to sell, such as villians being thrown off high places, musclebulk heroes, fistfights over ticking bombs (with red LED displays - go figure), and a dozen other cliches we've all seen so many many times before. I can see three places a good Marathon movie could come from; Pixar, Japan, and possibly Canada (if they can find the budget for something like that). But not Hollywood. Of course, a few years from now there is a good chance some nerds with their own private renderfarms will make a reasonably good Marathon movie. Witness Star Wreck: The Pirkinning and that Star Wars fanflic that was released last year. The Pirkinning trailer is here:

Umm.. I might be wrong, but I don't think LoTR was a Hollywood film. Is Wingnut films in Hollywood? I thought they were based in NZ. Besides, I didn't really like LoTR (I know I belong to a tiny minority here). There were too many Hollywoodish changes made to it, such as turning not one, but *three* of the characters into comical sidekicks. Also, all the characters but gollum were reduced to card-board cutouts. And I didn't like anything with Sauruman in it. Granted, LoTR could have been a lot worse... |
