Seeing as how all the eyes are positioned on the front of the skull, we can assume they are carnivores. However, their frail appearance makes me think they hunted in large numbers, or were possibly scavengers. Think about this: Early phfor had brainpower to a degree, and most likely lived in significant numbers. Being physically frail, they would have to work together to overwhelm large prey. They would want lots of large prey in order to feed their larger numbers. I know that I would probably want an indepentendly movable third eye if I was often severly outmatched by a large, angry animal, so that I could keep my eye on it's dangerous parts while trying to decide where to jab my spear. That's my hunter angle. As for scavengers, maybe the phfor would descend on a kill they find, keeping the third eye scanning the area in case whatever larger animal made the kill in the first place came back for seconds. Just a thought. And yes, I agree with the whole depth perception/y axis argument. ~W |
