In Response To: Re: my big rubicon confession (C Lund) : I would really like to know where this happened. I don't remember any
: BTW: There are at least two fatal bugs in the original release of Rubicon -
Gosh Chris, it's been over 2 years since I played. I gave all the details I could remember in my first post, most of which unfortunately was my actions rather than cues to the surroundings. I just don't remember anything about it. It could have happened further into the game I have no solid recollection, I just guessed where I was. I don't want to give you anything that would send you on a wild goose chase and waste your time. It could have been anywhere in the first half of the map. I was far enough in though that I was too discouraged to start the scenario over from scratch. Normally I play a map by having two save files for each level in a scenario. One at the very start of a level so I can replay a level again for fun and a save file at the very end of the level so I can walk through to refresh my memory for helping people with any problems they may have. For some reason I was just using one save file this time for everything. Believe me I just kicked myself up one side and down the other, rinsed, and repeated. Since then I use my saving technique on even the shortest scenarios. I really felt like a dope because one of the reasons for developing this technique in the first place was I got trapped once before. The one time I just blow it off I get burned again! I'm sorry I can't help you more. I am positive that there was no way around the sealed up area. I am a savvy Marathon player and I literally spent all day trying to progress in that map. I usually try to get everywhere I can and find every secret in a level. I'm all over it just for the fun of it. I was totally stuck on that level, the unexplored space behind the platform in the automap taunting me. I never did try the scenario again from scratch and even if I did at this late date, I don't think I would remember where I was. 2 years is just too long ago for this little gray cat. It may be hard to reproduce and was not reported before because as I mouse player I can whip around 180 degrees in an eye blink while side-running which gives those once-only platforms grief. I've run into these same problems on occasion. I've come to believe that once-only platforms should be used for scenery/special effects or control platforms and the like. That would of course be IMHO. I've searched all my Marathon backup CDs and hard disks for the save file in hopes I could send you that. I came up dry, I really did give it my best shot. Sorry about that Chris. The report I gave earlier was all I had. Gary Simmons
