I don't understand why you are calling them victims... Halo is still a good game. Bungie still has the ability to keep people entertained for decades with their games. Since people still play Marathon/Myth/Halo Bungie deserves the attention they receive. If Microsoft's advertising helps them receive more initial attention... so what? I think I must be misunderstanding you. If Marathon was released cross-platform it would have been interesting to see it duel with Doom. My vote would be that Marathon would have just been that much more popular. In my mind, the reason that Halo is so much more popular than Halo has more to do with the gaming community being that much larger and Halo has the ability to reach a larger audience. In my opinion, that audience would have been reached without Microsoft's help. What I'm waiting for is for all the chaff to leave. The people who are merely playing Halo 2 because it's the newest game. Right now there are only hardcore Marathon fans left to play Marathon, and Halo (1) is becoming that way. I'm assuming the same is true of Myth. When the next super-popular FPS comes out, then we can start a better comparison. We'll be able to see the dedicated and hardcore fans. |
