In Response To: Re: My H4 review - Campaign (Gameplay and Story) (Bry) : Hah, I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. : Whenever someone 'accuses' people of nitpicking, it's pretty much par for the : course now that they are derided as villains trying to suppress people, : regardless of the context of the issue. : It should a two way street. If someone is within their rights to complain, : someone else should be in their rights to say "Come on, really?" Of course they're going to be derided as villains, if they resort to insultingly-connotated terms like "griping." : No, but it would be nice if it was acknowledged that not everyone actually
What do you want us to do, lead every post with a disclaimer about how criticism is at the very least somewhat subjective? As if that hasn't been implied since the dawn of time? This reminds me of people attacking Cody for not bloating his posts with "IMO"s everywhere. You could pick anything that's ever been complained about with a Halo game, and there will be someone who doesn't find it an issue. When people say that the Library sucks and they explain why they don't like it, I'll explain why I do like it. I explain why I don't actually consider those things annoyances in the first place and describe why it's more a matter of personal preference and experience than an actual problem with the game. I don't tell them "it would be nice if you were to acknowledge that not everyone actually considers these annoyance in the first place and it's more a matter of personal preference than an actual problem with the game." Why don't I do that? Because it's blatantly obvious from the fact that the discussion is even happening! : (seriously,
The "parallel" was drawn because of your claim that the length of game downtime due to the events has so much to do with their problematicness. The stutters I was talking about (i.e. Halo 3 campaign stutter) are in some respects not so different. It's an occasional dropped frame or two, to the point that you're still mostly able to play the game at full capacity, and it's an overall small amount of game downtime. But it makes the game significantly less enjoyable to play, because it has a negative effect on the fluid feel of things. My whole point was not that they're entirely similar issues. It was that it's entirely possible for something with a small total active time, which has a relatively minor effect on gameplay, to impact an experience in a meaningful way. That's why the orchestra comparison was also there. I could give other Halo 3 examples that don't have anything to do with game pausing: just look at Lord Hood's face! OOooooOoOoo!!!
