I will say that Sonic CD isn't the best example and your also mistaken in how the spin dash worked. I had the original Sonic CD back in 93, as well as importing the Japanese version of Sonic Gems for the Gamecube.
Anyway, as far as my own observations go, I am seeing more and more often the smallest mole hills in a games design being made into mountains as someone agrees, then another and another, spiralling upwards into a remarkable indignation. : But for many of us Given the population of this forum, I'm not sure 8 (thus far) could really be called such a significant portion.
This is Halo, not a super fast paced beat 'em up like Street Fighter, where an excessive animation cycle can be severely damaging to the game (though in those cases, they tend to be implemented in a risk/reward manner). Speaking of risk/reward, where do assassinations figure into all this?
That is where this started in the context of Halo.
