If only the human who retrieves the index can put it in the control console, why does 343GS say to the Master Chief "If you are unwilling to help, I will simply find another." (This is at the beginning of two betrayals, after Cortana tells the Chief what the Halos really do.)

If the Index really does "attune" itself to the human who retrieves it, then 343GS couldn't find anyone else to do it, only the Chief would be able to.
