: So just tell me why in heaven not enhace more AO !!!????? Those who are capable of improving the engine do so of their own will, of their own volition, for free. They only do it because they for whatever reason feel like doing it. What you are asking is almost the same as so many people who come and say "I have a brilliant idea for a video game, it's really good! Why won't anybody make the art and maps and sounds for me?" It may be a brilliant idea you have, and if someone else who is capable of realizing it thinks so, then they will. But nobody has any responsibility to you or anyone to enhance Aleph at all, much less how you would like them to. It might be prudent to listen to people like us, if their goal is to please their target audience, but I honestly have no idea what motivates the people who work on Aleph One. So though you don't want to hear it, that's the answer you'll always get: either convince somehow, somehow, to do it for you - which will probably take more reason than "because I want it" - or you'll have to do it yourself. And BTW, "Marathon is too old, someone should take the files and port them to a better engine" is hardly a lazy attitude. To port Marathon to a better engine would take more work than just to update Aleph, and just updating Aleph with things like you're asking would not improve the original Marathon at all. You'd still have to "port" it to the new version of the engine to add all the new and improved features. This is why I say, again - fork the project. Keep one Aleph with backwards compatibility that just does Marathon better, and another version unconcerned with compatibility that just uses Marathon as the basis for something new and different. |
