Yeah I was quite confused in my legendary coop effort. "Hey, aren't we supposed to open this door? Oh I guess not, they're all dead :(."

One could also fail or do it vidmaster oath style on lower difficulties I guess, but it could just be assuming not playing legendary on the first playthrough. I suppose to compare to M1, we get different terminal messages, but we do find out the same information, just later.

In other cases in Halo CE you can just skip earlier parts - the very next level being a good example. And that sort of thing is necessary for beating the par times and such.
