We all know that the Covenant want something on Earth, maybe its something, or many they want to personally slaugther humanity up close and personal, and what's not to say that Earth was the original Forerunner homeworld? If Earth does get glassed, Chief might just take revenge and take it to the covies themselves, but if there are humans left, they could try to find a Halo to actually live on, or take terraforming technology from the Forerunner, since we know that the Forerunners had the ability to manipulate planetary condition like on Halo, so they could remake Earth anyways, so it wouldn't be a big deal if Earth was glassed, just as long humans survive, which they would have some backup somewhere, and maybe those hidden Spartans waiting somewhere.. The Elites are the only ones with Halo symbols on them and if they find out that Humans are Forerunners, they might change their alligeance, but not likely, we'll see, just remember Earth is mostly there so MC can be the hero, and dish out a few surprizes..
