Yeah, usually the paranoia is blown out of proportion. However, sometimes it is legitimate (e.g in the case of Xenogears).

I'm not sure that the reviewers understand that violence in video games rarely (if ever) translates into real life violence or other forms of evil. As for language, that's a different story. You see, while the moral dividing line between virtual and real violence is very clear for most people, the same is rarely true for language, so listening to bad language often translates into the use of it. I know that hearing the rap "music" from down my dormitory hall often forces my mind into thinking of the lyrics, thereby reducing my resistance to them. And of course, the same holds true for sex--the dividing line between virtual reality and real reality (heh) is much less clear to the mind.
