I think that the article pretty much implies that the Brutes will be on one side of the 3-way battles. However, it doesn't say the beginning of 3-way battles is supposed to surprise the player. That could be obvious from the third level, and established by Bungie before the game is out. Also, we can't even be sure that the Covenant will always be side 2 - you gotta watch those assumptions when you're dealing with the Hippo. It would make sense for the Brutes to be in a bad position in the Covenant caste system, because of their similarity to humans - assuming the ape seen in the article was a Brute. The big question with Halo was what was hidden on the ringworld that the Covenant are trying to find. In Halo 2, it's why the Covenant declared war on us, and what the fate of the human race will be. Of course, there are a lot more questions now that have been raised by Halo 1 and The Fall of Reach. : Of course, having an entirely different species show up (like the : Flood did) would do that as well . . . The Brutes *are* also a different species according to the article. OTOH, if the Brutes aren't apes, maybe the apes are Grunts as someone else suggested a while ago. In which case, we could have the Grunt Revolution that was speculated about way back around Gamestock 2001. : No-one wants it to be like, "and then, : suddenly, from a planet far far away, the Finger-Puppet-People show up and : go to war with both humanity and the Covenant," which would just be : inelegant. But, that, somehow doesn't seem like Bungie style. It seems : more likely that the Forerunners will make an appearance, as people have : speculated, but I'm not sure I like that idea either. Not only are they : cooler as a mystery, but also their technology (i.e. building the Halo) : seems so overwhelming that they would have to be pretty seriously hobbled : in some way to keep the game playable and logical. : whatever, : -Sep7imus whatever, Andrew J.
