You know, your logic doesn't hold up. Maybe Cortana is just another model, based on a 'human' base, and as such has default behaviors -- like attracting hunter's wrath and being shmackable? In this case, making her not attract enemies and not be hittable would have been extra features they would have had to add.
Look at Frogblast getting out to the Halo model on the PoA level. Why would there be a 'press X to flip ' message? Because the Halo model was based on their vehicle model code, and as such had flip-behavior by default.
Not that I'm not skeptical about his claim too -- he'd better pony up that tape -- but it sounds at least plausible to me for this to work.
