he's not lying. i've done it too, except with the banshee. my brother and i decided to play through the level using only melees (which is INCREDIBLY fun) and so we couldn't take out the end banshees - one followed us into the hallway to the control room, and when we opened the door it flew in behind us... as the cutscene mc walked down the path, it was circling around him w/one wing touching the ground until it finally killed him near the end. cortana came on in a minute and the banshee flew through her, but managed to turn her around so that her back was facing the camera.

the mc corpse did that thing where he got a bit more standing at each shot featuring him, too.

it's all quite possible w/a hunter.
