Or 4 Halos to reach across the diameter of the galaxy. The galaxy is not a pure disc, it also has a sphere of thinly scattered stars above and below the main disc, appropriately known as its halo. Assume diameter of this sphere is equal to diameter of galactic disk. Assume we want to kill whatever's in the galactic halo. Volume of galaxy = 4/3 * PI * radius of galaxy cubed = 5.24*10^14 ly^3.
