A single : uncloaked non sword holding elite is best taken out with an energy : pistol/melee or energy pistol/pistol. I find there is only one good use : for the AR, that's taking out the little floodies. The plasma rifle is ok : but I find the needler is more effecient for taking out an elite at : medium/close range. The only way I feel comfortable taking out a non : cloaked sword carrying elite is with a needler, and the only way to take : out a cloaked elite is with a plasma grenade. The AR actually works quite well against cloaked Elites (combined with the flashlight, which makes them do this eerie glowing-type thing). 1/4 of a clip and they're down. A few bullets to the head, even, if you're good at aiming. But for shielded Elites, nothing compares to a plasma pistol/AR combination (if there's only one, anyway. More than that usually requires a combination of grenades, random needler fire, and lots and lots of cover and falling back. Or a SPNKR. :) ). One shot with the plasma pistol, switch to AR and drop them fast. Or, if you're in close, just smack them in the face a few tiems; they'll be stunned by the plasma pistol momentarily, letting you move in for the melee fight.
