What gives me hope in the Haloverse

It's Venezia and that Earth took in Covenant refugees. The Covenant have just stopped trying to kill our species and we are taking them in and are giving them shelter when they are in need. Forerunners and their Mantle? Fuck you and fuck your Mantle. We are not saints but we are doing OK we don't need your Mantle Didact and Librarian so take your marital problems elsewhere and stop using us as your battlefield. The Chief wouldn't have known about our refugees and how we took them in. And maybe the Chief is the last person to make the connection, he always does what he is told and L is the ur-halsey, his oober mom but he did disobey orders so maybe there is some hope that he will tell L & D where to go. Is the Mantle worth aspiring to? Do we need it? It seems a bit patronizing. And it makes all the other races into dependents. Let them stand on their own two feet. help them if they are in need but don't treat them like children. Should we tell the precursors, "Mantle? no thanks! We're fine without it"? And I would love to play an ODST style side story as an agent on Venezia. Stop some nukes from getting into the wrong hands but have a mission on a vibrant world with grunts, brutes, humans, drones, and jackals getting along. See an encouraging and less apocalyptic side of the haloverse. Take a ride on a Hog driven by gangsta jackals.
