I don't care for this cruiser being significantly smaller than a Covenant corvette, but First Strike is old and maybe that particular 300m number should have been revised.

I would expect what's defined as a cruiser, corvette, destroyer, etc. are human designations for Covenant vessel sightings. I seriously doubt the Covenant would have also come up with the term "frigate", for instance.

That said, I don't know exactly what constitutes a cruiser in the Covenant military.

Since the assault carrier and super carrier pulled the old Klingon Bird of Prey trick of having two different sized ships of identical design, it's certainly a precedent for the Covenant battlecruiser and light cruiser to do the same.
