I suppose it's just a matter of if A = B and B = C then maybe A = C?

John's Mk. IV = The Package variant and it's quite clear that The Package variant = H4:FUD variant, than maybe the Mk. IV = H4:FUD variant. And therefore all the conversation we had about the canonicity of that armor applies equally here. Maybe people just don't realize that they're more or less the same armor. I mean, that's fine... but it doesn't change the fact that we're still kind of beating a dead horse.

Truthfully, the simple fact is that the whole "Spartans are identical in their armor" has been more or less overwritten, just as John never saw Elites until Reach and humanity hadn't encountered Prophets before H2 has. I think to keep holding on to that with such a literal interpretation is only going to cause more upset at this point, as much as we all may have liked those various things. Yes we've seen Mk. IV armor in Halo Wars. But were any of those Spartans John? Nope. So really, this is canonically the armor that he receives from Halsey in FoR, which we are JUST NOW getting to see, as every other view we've gotten of him in that armor up until now has been either heavily stylized or interpretive. For better or for worse, this is now the armor set that he had up until receiving his Mk. V at Reach.
