In Response To: Re: Halo 4 FUD Behind the Scenes Video (kidtsunami) : I'm just curious about your understanding of budgets and running projects. : Building software and running a company is not this magical process where : More Money == More GOOD. You can't draw direct comparisons about how money : is spent in one area and compare it to another. Things scale differently, : you can reliably take a perfect production line and well, just buy more : factory space and hire more people and you'll reliably get more product. : You can't on the other hand just hire more "sandbox map editor : engineers" and expect a shinier better forge is going to pop out : (though I bet if you pour even more money into test, you'll get fewer : bugs, but that's a balance companies try to strike cost vs value...). : So unless you have had to make tough decisions about how to allocate a budget
Here's what I know. I know that FUD cost between 5-10 million dollars, according to the LA Times. I know that game programmers make between 50-100K a year. I know that I care more about the game than the webseries. So, based on what I know of Forge for Halo 4 so far, I feel like they should have spent that 5-10 million dollars differently. I understand that it takes lots of time and work to build a Forge World from scratch. I wasn't hoping for more Forge maps though. I was hoping for a complete overhaul of the mode itself - terrain editing, time of day, weather, lighting, textures, etc. I've seen nothing indicating that we'll get any of that and with the game only a few months out I won't hold my breath for it. I don't believe that they couldn't make that happen in three years.
