: Now, this is nice in the sense of stylistic consistency, but FAR more
: importantly these different marks are cues for the visually-minded
: audience. When you're reading a Star Wars comic, and you see a trooper,
: what kind of helmet they're wearing provides you a rough estimate of the
: story's place in the timeline. You can start to form an idea of who these
: characters are, what the big events happening around them all, etc. just
: from the visuals.

: And Halo has a complicated timeline - trying to read it all and visually
: place the events in order in your head can be extremely confusing for the
: visual person, especially when the Spartans are switching back and forth
: between different armor designs.

That picture is an excellent example of how visual design is key and how consistency makes it a winner.
