I'm referring to the considerable number of posts here concerning badly-done character development, a dodgy story, and a bad ending. Also it was apparently more "fix fic" than proper novel in places, something I dislike.

Traviss admits not reading any of the EU, and not playing the games, and also responded to one of Arithmomaniac's tweets by saying something along the lines of (I don't have the tweet to hand) "These things [closure, some other stuff I forget, but it was important] aren't in the book because I write for grown-ups."

Huh. I thought with Truth gone, the Great Journey exposed as a lie, and the Brute fleets shattered by the Elites, the Covenant pretty much came apart, with the different species going mostly their own ways (there was a short story in Halo: Evolutions that showed this quite nicely, with the Jackals back as scavenging pirates...though the Elite Shipmaster being willing to kill the human surveyors, and having to avoid them for fear of being shot struck me as odd).

It ain't quite water, and it ain't quite soil...
