In Response To: Bip. Bop. Bulletin! (Hyokin) I have mixed feelings about this and what we are doing. I don't like the armor. I was really impressed by what was done in Reach. The base armor was very much to my taste. To me this new look isn't as good, my opinion is that it is ugly. I didn't understand the reasons given for the changes in the article. It felt like a word salad. But... Its not our place to take offense for Bungie. To my knowledge nobody at Bungie has said that they feel offended or angry or slighted so its like we are putting words into Bungie's collective mouth. We are being presumptuous. OTOH, we here at HBO have made our feelings about the armor clear. I think that we expected 343i to scurry away and fix the stuff that we complained about. They didn't do that, they stuck to their guns. It is our pride that is offended, we are the ones that are angry. I am angry that they didn't do what I told them to. How dare they? :-) 343i have conducted a charm offensive to win us over. Have tried their best to show that they get Halo and that they respect what Bungie has done. But Bungie aren't making Halo anymore. 343i is and they have to take it over and make it their own. They can't be Bungie's shadow and they have to make their mark. Game development is a creative process and it relies on the people making the game. They are talented people and they need to have confidence in what they are doing. I think it may be counter-productive to make them second guess all their decisions at this stage in development. I don't want to see a watered down version of 343i's Halo 4. I want to see what they can do unfettered by doubt and the fear of fan wrath. Did Freud actually say that sons have to kill their fathers? In a sense 343i needs to rebel against Bungie or they will never be anything more than a stand-in. I think that they should make an effort to break from the past. I see it as being psychologically necessary for 343i. 343i will either make a great Halo game, or they wont. But I think that they will never achieve anything great by being timid or by not being themselves. -PS The guys at Bungie may be far less upset about this than we are. I imagine that they understand 343i's position better than we do. And lets face it, Bungie has a new game, a new baby of their own. I doubt that they feel too possessive about their old game. Their energies are directed to the future.
