Yeah, what they're saying sounds very contradictory to me. I get that they want to ground the game more into the overall fiction (whereas Bungie has kept the games largely independent of elements from the novels) but their logic in what constitutes overall fiction eludes me. It's like they're saying that they want more consistency, while disregarding visual consistency between the games?

Now, I like the idea that they're tying the novels' fiction to the games and making it all more cohesive, but why do they need to sacrifice established elements of game fiction to do so? It particularly baffles me because there is no conflict between the game depictions and novel depictions of the MJOLNIR, because the books never describe the armor in detail. Yet the statement from 343i seems to imply there are some canon problems with the game MJOLNIR.

They want it to feel like the suit from the novels, which is a good idea. But why does the design need to be entirely overhauled to do that? Can't it be accomplished through animation and more vivid sound effects? Since previous visual iterations of the armor exist, why should they be discarded entirely? Shouldn't the depictions in the games instead serve as the precedent for any future versions, especially when this is a new game in the same series?

I've been worried for some time that 343i doesn't place enough importance on artistic consistency. Previously I've thought it as mere carelessness or lack of coordination, but now they're basically saying it's their policy to disregard established visuals. They seem to be forgetting that they owe everything to Bungie. They wouldn't have a Chief to redesign without Bungie's years of hard work. And yet, now that they're in control, they want to throw it all away as a final insult to the creators of the universe.
