"Typically, from Halo to Halo, the Master Chief’s armor has changed and adapted, and there have been fictional reasons why. With Halo 4, we’re taking a different approach and focusing on the storytelling aspects of art from the design standpoint. We don’t do that everywhere in the game, but we wanted to take this opportunity to really focus on him as a human being."

A "different approach" huh? So the previous Halos didn't focus on the storytelling aspects of artistic design? The art was just random crap thrown together I guess. Also, the armor has changed and adapted, but the changes have never been this drastic. There's a disconcerting message of superiority to be seen here. "We get Halo better than Bungie ever did." It's good to be smug when the game isn't out yet, but let's hope it doesn't end up backfiring.

And how does exploring the Chief as a human being relate to the design of his armor? I admit it's a big part of his character since the armor is the only visual appearance of the Chief, but in the end it's just a piece of hardware. Those shouldn't magically change with no good reason.

Yeah, I guess I just don't understand the fiction when I criticize the changes. And Bungie didn't understand it either, hence 343i needed to correct that.

Getting that weight across in the design had us looking at a lot of contemporary military vehicles, and we pushed detail and form into the armor that implied that history. This is the bleeding edge of military technology."

Or maybe you should've looked at, I don't know, the earlier versions of the MJOLNIR from the games? Or is that a completely stupid idea? I guess random military vehicles have more in common with the armor than the previous iterations of the armor itself. It's quite an insight into how 343i views visual consistency or the MJOLNIR's artistic lineage. Don't build on the existing design, just scrap everything and start from scratch. That's the way to go.
