So if you're turned around, you get to the other side : of the room before realizing your mistake. Which is what, maybe 20 seconds of walking if you got turned around halfway through? And is a problem that rapidly reduces in frequency as you learn to maintain angular orientation in those circular rooms? So you lose two or three minutes due to being lost in a playthrough if you're being very clumsy? The arrows also aren't the only markers in those rooms. There's usually a ton of assymmetrical landmarking in the middle sections, and the barricade pieces and whatnot on the outsides can provide relative orientation aid. Simply making a mental note of your direction of angular motion about the outsides of a room can eliminate the navigation problem when you're taking an outside path. : The arrows are simply not a
You're complaining about having to remember that the arrows go backwards in a backtracking level. I'm honestly not sure if you're being serious. It would be a far larger mind screw if they were to turn around; might as well have a player go uphill both ways through a level.
