Augmented port | |

In Response To: Re: Why i wont be buying HCEA *article* (General Vagueness) : I don't think that's correct as they've added content to it-- even if you : disregard the new graphics and sounds (a port doesn't automatically turn a : MIDI song into an orchestra-played one), there are the terminals and other : as-yet undefined things. What we've really got here is just a disagreement over the meaning of 'port'. It seems to be a rather grey term, but is commonly applied even when existing elements are adjusted and new features added. In this general sense of the word then, CEA is indeed a port. However, the more new features there are (i.e. over and above the things you might take as givens, such as graphical reworking appropriate to the new platform), and the more adjustments there are to existing elements, the more appropriate it becomes to qualify things if you want to convey the full situation and not sell it short. The tvtropes site has a page on the term polished port which seems to apply, but I don't think 'polished' is the best term here because it's not very suggestive of new features. It might be more helpful to describe CEA as an augmented port, though the extent of the augmentation has yet to become clear.
