In Response To: Why i wont be buying HCEA *article* (RC Master) As more information pours out the worse this looks, unfortunately. So 343 decided to do a port instead of a remake. Okay cool. If you're doing a port you need to ask yourself, why would someone buy this port when the original exists? There are a few answers to this: 1. You are porting to a new system, so people can now play the game when they otherwise couldn't. For example, porting from arcade to home console, or porting from PS2 to Xbox. 2. Your port has additions that make it more desirable, such as additional game modes, online play, or other things. Those are the only reasons I can think of why anybody would buy a port. For Halo Anniversary, people won't be buying it for number 1. Halo exists on the Xbox and can be bought used and played via the backward compatible emulation, or it can be purchased for games on demand, both of which are for the Xbox 360 platform. This leaves number 2. It's a no brainer that XBL multiplayer would have been a killer feature and would by itself justify the port. I'm not going to presume how other people value their money or the multiplayer experience, but for me personally such a feature would be worth more than $40. Not only was this not included, but multiplayer via LAN was REMOVED. Ports remove stuff all the time, usually because of hardware limitations or something on the target platform, and in such a case there's really nothing that can be done. That's not the case here. There was of course no good reason at all that LAN play was removed. The game is apparently running the original Halo code, and the original Halo already had LAN play. Both the Xbox and the 360 have an ethernet port. There's no excuse for removing this. The more I think about it, this is nothing more than a numbers game for Reach. Who's honestly going to use the Halo Anniversary disc to play multiplayer? Nobody. Everyone will download the maps to Reach, where they'll have access to those plus all the other Reach maps. At least if they are smart. I mean, why would I play Reach on 7 maps when I could play Reach on all of them? If LAN play were left intact, this would be a good port. But it's not. Sometimes I wish the gaming media would be on our side and do it's fucking job for once, and totally blast this thing for removing game modes unnecessarily.
