In Response To: A Tiered Critique of Reach's Story (General Battuta) : This contradiction does something dangerous, which is establish that all the : peripheral investment we Halo fans makes - our books, comics, Waypoint : articles - could be tossed aside at a whim. That's a bad precedent. And : that's the only reason I worry about these contradictions. : Halo: Reach introduces a THIRD contradiction by suggesting that Cortana was : only shipped to the Pillar of Autumn moments before it departed. And don't : tell me that Cortana was splintered! That's all well and good, but it's : from a Halsey Journal included in the Legendary addition, rather than : being explained in the game where it would _actually matter to players_. : At least somebody gets what I was saying in earlier posts about how stupid : this was. I didn't word it as well as you did. You're griping about material located in a book that should also not matter to gamers... You can't hail TFoR as gospel and then poo-poo Halsey's journal simply because you didn't buy it. Btw, I re-read TFoR this weekend for the first time in a few years. I was surprised by A) how short it is (I remembered an epic story, but the last time I read it I had coupled it immediately with First Strike which expounds upon things). B) how the entire book leads up to the fall of Reach, but C) the actual falling of Reach is a footnote in the last several pages comparatively. I'm not saying the book itself is not enjoyable (it is), nor am I saying that the game is not stepping on toes... potentially. With as much detail as we have about TFoR - it's TONS of space battles and almost nothing of the surface. While I can concede that there's a lot in the game that *should probably* have been executed differently, you likewise must concede that TFoR does so little description of the final assault planetside that there are more than enough gaps to drive the entirely of the game into (though you preferred driving the book into the game's gap). Likewise stop ignoring Halsey's journal - it's as canon as TFoR and written by the same author... You can't revile Bungie for breaking the story when you're ignoring what the author provides as a bridge between the two.
