: /Dead Glory Don't think of DD 5.1 in terms of PC sound. Unless you have a 5.1 sound card, it is totally different. Each channel has it's own signal. The Xbox or DVD player ENCODES the sound from the disc into a packet that contains all the information for 5.1 channels. This signal travels down your digital connection (optical or coaxial) and your digital receiver DECODES it into one signal for each channel. It takes the packet and rips each channel out of it until you have 5 completely separate audio signals and 1 low frequency (sub) signal. That is the beauty of Digital 5.1 audio. Marty, thank you so much for the update! Dolby 5.1 is the greatest feature of the Xbox (and Halo) to me. It's gonna be incredible. |
