Ok, I don't really have time to answer this, but since I did get my way...

Actual sounds will actually play out of the correct speakers based on where you are in relation to where the sound is emanating.

Throw a grenade and watch it blow. In front you hear the explosion. In the back left speaker you hear the particle of dirt that got blown over your head and hit a rock. On the right rear speaker you hear the Elite firing a plasma rifle at your head.

or...

Throw a grenade, turn tail and run (like a girly man). In the rear speakers you hear the explosion, in the front right you hear the particle of dirt you saw fly over your head, and on your left you hear the Elite killing you with his plasma rifle.
