He was pretty explicit that the Covenant used plasma weapons. At least that explains how the silly energy sword works. If that thing had been made of real plasma, the elite holding it would have vaporized from the heat, or at least carbonized his thigh and hand. Same goes for the plasma pistol and plasma rifle and their exceptionally slow shots. Okay...what exactly does this special technology involve, other than being of forerunner origin?
