Incidentally, the quotes here were reposted from an interview with Bitner that I did with Noctavis back in 2000 for a site to be called "HaloNews" that never really got off the ground. Later on, first Noctavis and then myself joined the site called "The Core" at the time that later became Rampancy.net. The entire interview can be seen here:

The original press release for Halo back in July of 1999 also uses the concept of persistence:
